WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Experience art that defies musical and theatrical classification. With blends of urban and traditional music styles, Constructing a Masterpiece channels the exuberance and diversity of New York City's multicultural landscape. "A young Duke Ellington of our times, William B. Johnson composes/arranges with an unrivaled command of musical experimentation and alternative instrumentation. The way Ellington used the piano, Johnson allows his virtuosity as a percussionist to lead his ensemble in a performance of un-categorical compositions." Johnson successfully combines horns, strings, side bass drums and traditional African instruments with the buckets in a cohesive ensemble that appeals to listeners from Blue Grass to World Beat.
