WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Since it's inception last summer, Cause Celeb!, the highly-theatrical autobiography reading series has garnered a cult-like following. With the new year, this acclaimed series created by actresses Nancy Balbirer and Charlotte Booker moves to a new home at Fez in Noho.
A rotating roster of performers will read the juiciest, most self-aggrandizing passages from an eclectic mix of celebrity autobiographies. Each week centers around a different theme:
May 3 -- Cause Celeb: Ambi-Sextrous
It's a night of gender-bending stories from the likes of Anne Heche, RuPaul, Esther Williams, Mrs. Rock Hudson, and more.
May 10 -- The Mother Load
Cause Celeb's Mother's Day tribute, featuring the words of the Mother of Our Country, Barbara Bush, Britney Spears' mom and other matriarchs.
May 17 -- Slammin' with the Stars: Def Celebrity Jam
An evening featuring verse by Jimmy Stewart, Michael Jackson, Sheila Macrae, Leonard Nimoy, Jewel, and other fabulous celeb poets.
May 24 -- Viva Mas Divas!
An all-new evening of stories about Diva-dom, including Aretha, Gladys Knight, et al.
June 7 -- Judy-ism: Cause Celeb's Happy Birthday to Miss Garland
The Girl from Oz is the focus of these unforgettable tales from our favorite celebs.
Future readings include Glen or Glenda? (gender identity stories), Trials of The Century, and Marilyn/Manson (stories relating to Monroe or Charles, respectively).
Past special guests at Cause Celeb! include: Charles Busch, Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright, novelist Erica Jong, gossip columnist Michael Musto, Mary Louise Wilson, Julia Halston, and Frances Sternhagen. Regular performers at Cause Celeb! include: Nancy Balbirer, Charlotte Booker, Stephen Bradbury, Melinda Buckley, Marylouise Burke, Edward Burke, Tony Carlin, Greg Derelian, Melissa Hurst, Chris Lindsay-Abaire, Shane O'Maley, Chris Wells, and Ching Valdes.
