WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Tonight, the Weimar New York House Accordionist ("Ciao Bellows") returns with her own imaginative music to the Joe's Pub stage. Dubbed a "Musical Devil in a Red Dress" by the late, legendary Producer Arif Mardin, Pianist/Accordionist/Singer Amy Kohn is back from Italy, the UK and Germany, where she performed her "Musica appasionata, introspettiva, dissonante e armonica" (Il Mattino, Padova) at venues such as London's Ray's Jazz Shop, The 12 Bar, The Klinker, Senigallia's Notte Bianca Festival, Vigonza's Cantieri D'arte, and Padova's Giardini Sospesi. Amy's 2006 album I'm in Crinoline, Co-Produced with Arif's son Joe Mardin and featuring her "twisted arrangments" (Downtown Music Gallery) for her 7-piece band, wind septet and accordion quartet, has been receiving substantial airplay on innovative US and European radio (BBC radio 3 and 6, WNYC, Netherland's Concertzender). She's at work on her next, extra-lustrous album, with songs about fake airplane sex, Brazilian neon, and orange-shaped heartache, and is honored to be one of the featured singers chosen by Arif Mardin (as were Chaka Khan and Norah Jones), on a CD and DVD of his music, coming out this year.

Roshi Nasehi presents beautiful and unusual original songs, alongside very individual interpretations of Iranian Folk material. Her debut EP 'And Stars' features the electronic soundscapes/beats of Graham Dids (Gagarin, Nico, John Cale, Pere Ubu etc) together with classical cello from Rachel Threlfall and experimental cello from Richard Thomas (Now, The Hola) and was first released in July 2008 by Geo records on 10" and CD before being re-released in Feburary 09 following widespread acclaim across Europe (including experimental EP of the month in September 08 Mixmag). It has also received significant airplay around Europe and beyond, including numerous playings on RTE (Ireland), Norddeutscher Rundfunk (Germany), Garden Of Earthly delights (UK) and Sideways Through Sound (Australia). She was also invited in November 2008 to perform on a live edition of BBC Radio 3 programme The Verb, presented live from the Radio Theatre at Broadcasting House. Her debut album The Sky and The Caspian Sea is released on October 14th on Geo records. It has a beautiful nostalgic feel throughout reinforced by a unique soundworld of live instruments and evocative samples including her own father's violin playing.
