WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
In 1974, Elizabeth "Connie" Converse packed up her car, drove away and was never heard from again, leaving behind a haunting collection of recorded music that would remain virtually unheard for nearly 30 years. Her songs, written and recorded in the 1950's, paint a striking portrait of a gifted, independent, and troubled woman whose work was truly ahead of her time. Now, after more than 50 years at the bottom of a filing cabinet, Connie's tapes have been restored, re-mastered, and made available for the first time.
Joe's Pub presents an intimate evening celebrating the music - and exploring the mystery - of Connie Converse. Gina Leishman, Marissa Nadler, and Scott Matthew perform new arrangements, with special appearances by WNYC's David Garland, Lady Lucille, and more.
