Philadelphia Theatre Workshop has announced selections for its fifth season, which will open with the Philadelphia premiere of Roberto Aguiree-Sacasa's The Mystery Plays, November 15-30. The play follows Joe, a horror film director, after he survives a terrible train wreck only to be haunted by the ghost of one of the passengers who didn't survive. The 2ND Annual Playshop Festival will follow with four new high quality scripts that reflect diverse, contemporary human stories. The playwrights will be writing and re-writing the scripts during the entire process so the plays will reshape themselves over the course of the festival.

The season will close with the world premiere of The Meatpackers Book Club, May 30-June 14, a play that dives into the world of a book club where the members wield bloody hacksaws for a living and discussions about literature break out in fistfights. Harry, Red, and lone female meatpacker Tiny discuss Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, The Life of Pi, and the proper way to hack animal carcasses.
