Dress to Impress

Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Vanessa Redgrave, Kristin Chenoweth, Naomi Watts, and other stylish stars dazzle the crowd at the Drama Desk Awards.

The 2007 Drama Desk Awards, held on May 20 at NYC's LaGuardia High School, once again proved to be an evening of fun -- and fashion. Audra McDonald, who plays "plain" Lizzie Curry in 110 in the Shade, looked awfully fancy in this stunning orange dress.




























McDonald shared the Outstanding Actress in a Musical Award with her close pal, LoveMusik star Donna Murphy, who was simply divine in this multi-tiered blue gown.



























The evening's hostess with the mostess, Kristin Chenoweth, stood out from the crowd in this absolutely gorgeous dress.



























The legendary Vanessa Redgrave, who was named Outstanding Performer in a Solo Show for The Year of Magical Thinking, showed off her own sense of style.





























Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play winner Martha Plimpton traded in her 19th-century Russian costumes from The Coast of Utopia for this wonderfully modern black-and-white dress.





























In the Heights leading lady Mandy Gonzalez was a shining star in this leg-baring gold number...






























...while her on-stage mom, Tony winner Priscilla Lopez, showed off her own great gams.



























Proving once again that one can never go wrong with basic black were Coram Boy's two nominees for Best Featured Actress in a Play, the lovely Xanthe Elbrick...






























...and Drama Desk favorite Jan Maxwell, looking nothing like the dastardly housekeeper she currently plays on stage.



























Also in black was Mary Poppins herself, Ashley Brown, who looked practically perfect in this fetching frock.






























Christine Ebersole, last year's winner for Outstanding Actress in a Musical for Grey Gardens, was easy to spot in this lively mix-and-match ensemble.



























Is there a better-looking, better-dressed producer than Spring Awakening's Tamara Tunie? If so, it's a case for her colleagues on Law & Order: SVU!




























Showing off in red on the red carpet were Linda Balgord, nominated for her role of Queen Elizabeth in The Pirate Queen...




























...and presenter Marsha Mason, who will make a welcome return to the New York stage next fall in A Feminine Ending at Playwrights Horizons.




























Expectant mom Naomi Watts was one of the evening's brightest lights in her billowy white dress. She also had the night's best accessory, longtime boyfriend (and daddy-to-be) Liev Schreiber.
