The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) has announced seven grant recipients of the National Fund for New Musicals, a new major granting initiative to support NAMT member not-for-profit theaters in their collaboration with writers to create, develop, and produce new musicals. This is the first year of grants awarded from the National Fund of New Musicals.

Grants to support full productions include Adirondack Theatre Festival in Glens Falls, New York for their production of Ordinary Days by Adam Gwon; and Los Angeles based Center Theatre Group for Post Office, featuring book and lyrics by Melissa James Gibson and music by Michael Friedman.

Grants in support of workshops and readings include Chicago Shakespeare Theater's reading of The Emperor's New Clothes with music and lyrics by Alan Schmuckler and book by Dave Holstein; Goodspeed Musicals for Band Geeks!, created by Tommy Newman, Gordon Greenberg, Gaby Alter, and Mark Allen; and Ohio's Human Race Theatre Company for The Trimble Wars with music by Sean Michael Flowers, and book and lyrics by Patrick Vaughn. Ford's Theatre Society in Washington, DC will receive a grant for the early development of The House by Andrew Gerle and Eddie Sugarman.
