Mercedes Ruehl to Join HBO’s Luck As Series Regular

Oscar and Tony Award winner Mercedes Ruehl will become a regular on the second season of HBO’s drama Luck, according to Deadline.com.


Ruehl will reprise her first season guest-starring role as Julietta Caligari, the mother of Renzo (Ritchie Coster).


The series, which is written by David Milch, and directed by Michael Mann, is an inside look into the world of horse racing. The cast features Dustin Hoffman, Patrick J. Adams, Kerry Condon, Kevin Dunn, Dennis Farina, Jason Gedrick, Michael Gambon, Ian Hart, Jill Hennessy, Richard Kind, Nick Nolte, John Ortiz, Tom Payne, and Gary Stevens.


Ruehl won Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performance in Lost in Yonkers. Among her many other stage credits are The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?, The Shadow Box, The American Plan and The Rose Tattoo.


She won an Academy Award for her performance in The Fisher King. Her many other film credits include Big, Married to the Mob, Radio Days, and the film version of Lost in Yonkers.
