Tarrell Alvin McCraney and Steppenwolf Theatre Company Win Joyce Award for New Job Play

Steppenwolf Theatre Company has won a 2010 Joyce Award to support a new play by Tarell Alvin McCraney that will be based on the biblical book of Job. The award, which is given to support artists of color, carries a $50,000 cash grant.

McCraney's plays include the trilogy The Brother/Sister Plays, which is comprised of The Brothers Size, In the Red and Brown Water, and Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet. The three works enjoyed an extended engagement at New York's Public Theater and will begin previews on January 31 at Steppenwolf.

Other Joyce Award recipients include Uri Sands and St. Paul's Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, Carolina Chocolate Drops and Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music, Theaster Gates and The Milwaukee Art Museum, and Ali Momeni and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
