The producers of The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, at Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre, have announced a student rush policy for the revival.
Student rush tickets, which are subject to availability, can be purchased for $37 each, one ticket per student ID and are cash only. If there are available tickets, they can be purchased the day of the performance starting at 5pm for evening performances and noon for matinees at the theater's box office.
The musical's cast is led by four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald (Bess), Drama Desk nominee Norm Lewis (Porgy) and two-time Tony nominee David Alan Grier (Sporting Life).
The cast also includes Phillip Boykin (Crown), Nikki Renée Daniels (Clara), Joshua Henry (Jake), Christopher Innvar (Detective) , Bryonha Marie Parham (Serena) and NaTasha Yvette Williams (Mariah). Additionally the cast includes: Sumayya Ali, Allison Blackwell, Roosevelt André Credit, Trevon Davis, Joseph Dellger, Wilkie Ferguson, Carmen Ruby Floyd, Gavin Gregory, Heather Hill, David Hughey, Andrea Jones-Sojola, Alicia Hall Moran, Cedric Neal, Phumzile Sojola, Nathaniel Stampley, Julius Thomas III, J.D. Webster and Lisa Nicole Wilkerson.
The classic story by DuBose and Dorothy Heyward is set in Charleston's fabled Catfish Row, where the beautiful Bess struggles to break free from her scandalous past, and the only one who can rescue her is the crippled but courageous Porgy. This revival features a reworking by director Diane Paulus, playwright Suzan-Lori Parks, and composer Diedre L. Murray.
The creative team also includes choreographer Ronald K. Brown, set designer Riccardo Hernandez, costume designer ESosa, lighting designer Christopher Akerlind and sound designer Acme Sound Partners.
