WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, written by Charles Busch, is a fantastic send-up of vampiric tales and actress's vanity. The story begins in Sodom, transports us to 1920's Hollywood, and drops us on a modern stage. The rivalry begins in Sodom where a guard is lamenting his social life and a succubus is awaiting a sacrificial virgin. The virgin is turned into a succubus and a 2000 year battle of feminine wiles, toothy marks, and blackmail ensues. It is a hilarious love-hate relationship that sustains them both.

Charles Busch, also known as the drag queen Mary Dale is best known for his quirky and campy spoofs. He is considered a treasure in the Off-Broadway community and was granted a special award for career achievements by the Drama Desk in 2003. He has written such classics as Psycho Beach Party, The Tale of the Allergist' s Wife, and the short-lived Broadway musical, Taboo. The Tale of the Allergist's Wife opened on Broadway in 2000. This was Busch's first play for a main stream audience. The audience loved it and it ran for 777 performances. In 2001, the play received a Tony Award Nomination for Best Play. His newest play, The Third Story was presented in 2008 by MCC. In addition, he has appeared in many films and continues to hone his craft as an actor.

First produced in 1984, The Vampire Lesbians of Sodom went on to become one of the longest running Off- Broadway plays in history. The cast of this production includes Cj Dion, Diana Harkin, Kendra MacDevitt, Matt McAllister, Chris Russell, Keelie Sheridan, and Tara White. ONEtime Productions is a theater company created by performers for performers who focus on performance driven material. Their main goal is to produce shows that demand the utmost from the actors, aspiring to challenge the audience to lose themselves in that special connectivity with the actors and the story. ONEtime Productions is founded by Diana Harkin (Co-Producer/Creative Director) and Matt McAllister (Co-Producer/Operations Manager).

Beyond disappointing
I saw this terrific show many years ago in San Francisco and was so looking forward to seeing it again - The first few minutes were pretty stiff but I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt because of it being a clearly inexperienced cast. But even with that it was one of the most misguided and banal productions I have ever seen. THe acting was flat, the direction was excrutiating yelling is not acting, the delightful campy spirit of the show was simply not there. I would have loved to have supported this effort but will think twice before ever seeing anything by this group again.

VampireLesbiansofSodom
Pretty good considering the cast wasnt born at the time it was written and I hear it gets campier with each performance. The dancing is great - A strange show to get across and they do.
