Karole Armitage was dubbed the "punk ballerina" with her high-voltage, hard-rock style that pushed the limits of classical technique and re-envisioned its sonic and pictorial environment. Her 1981 ground-shattering work Drastic-Classicism created with experimental composer Rhys Chatham and her 1985 Watteau Duets, a riff on the pas de deux, were iconographic in the New York Punk Scene.
Each will be excerpted and performed by her company Armitage Gone! Dance with dangerously decibeled guitarist Steven Gunn and the audio terrorist ensemble, TALIBAM! The program is interspersed with Rhys Chatham, artist James Nares and other punk era celebrities joining Karole in a salon to discuss the importance of the punk aesthetic and its impact on New York City in the late twentieth century.
