The Shaw Festival is proud to present Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker, directed by Christopher Newton. This is 1880s New York as it might have been.Here is the wonderful Dolly Levi (née Gallagher), adventurer and lover of life, who is determined to wed Horace Vandergelder, the irascible Merchant of Yonkers. Toss in a fabulous cast of characters - Irene Molloy, the lively milliner; Barnaby and Cornelius, Vandergelder's clerks, out on the town; Malachi Stack, who advises against combining two vices at the same time - and you have a mad dance of joy.
