WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Peculiar Works Project presents The Judson House Project, a celebration of the history and legacy of the legendary Judson House before the wrecking ball strikes. The building, which was recently purchased by New York University, was among the first sites for New York City "Happenings" in the 1960s. Avant-garde legends such as Carolee Schneeman, Yoko Ono, Yvonne Rainer, Robert Rauschenberg, Claes Oldenberg, Trisha Brown, and Maria Irene Fornes worked or lived at Judson House. Nine performance and installation works are on view in different spaces throughout Judson House. Audiences are taken on a tour through the installations, with linking vignettes between each piece. Artists include Chris Burney, Laurel Jay Carpenter, Yanira Castro, Nancy S. Chu, S.M. Dale, Steven Dean, Diane Dwyer, Funkopolis, and Renee Philippi. 90-minute tours begin every half hour, from 7-10 pm (for a total of 7 tours per evening). Reservations are required.
