WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Guantanamo Guidebook is an extraordinary film that recruited seven young, physically fit British men - three of them Muslims - to experience 48 hours in Guantanamo Bay. By reconstructing the cages, dressing the men in orange jump suits and hiring former U.S. military interrogators, The Guantanamo Guidebook attempts to make the experience as real as possible. Throughout the 48 hours, the volunteers were only subjected to the officially sanctioned interrogation techniques - including enforced stress positions, sleep adjustiment, and sensory deprivation. The results were truly shocking. The volunteers could leave at any time, yet one man wet himself and another vomited under the pressure. One man was pulled out for medical reasons, suffering from hypothermia. All of them suffered mental and physical torment. Despite having previously supported the use of "torture lite," several volunteers said they would have admitted to anything to please their interrogators.

Following the presentation of the film, there is a panel discussion with
Claudia Milne, Executive Producer of The Guantanamo Guidebook, and Michael Ratner, President of the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and Adjunct Professor of Law at Columbia University, among others.

The Guantanamo Guidebook is presented as part of the Impact Festival.
