WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Brooklyn Philharmonic presents Freedom! One of the nation's groundbreaking music ensembles, the Brooklyn Philharmonic continues to celebrate its vital presence in the cultural life of the New York metropolitan area. Daniel Roumain Hip-Hop Essay Leonard Bernstein Symphony No. 1, Jeremiah Thea Musgrave Remembering Harriet (World Premiere) Total Praise Choir of Emmanuel Baptist Church Pastor Frank Haye, director Chelsea Tipton, II, conductor Cynthia Haymon, soprano Pamela Dillard, mezzo-soprano Nmon Ford, baritone Returning guest conductor Chelsea Tipton leads a concert of the music of Leonard Bernstein and Thea Musgrave. The cry for freedom from oppression is a thread that runs throughout the concert which begins with Bernstein's Symphony no. 1, Jeremiah, and its haunting text from the Old Testament. Musgrave's suite from the opera Harriet, The Woman Called Moses tells the stirring story of Harriet Tubman, the heroine of the Underground Railroad. This suite has been created for the BP by the composer.
