WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Bad Plus -- bassist Reid Anderson, pianist Ethan Iverson, and drummer David King -- are three post-modern jazz iconoclasts who combine keen wit, dynamic musical contrasts, and an original sensibility in what's been called "the loudest piano trio ever." Drawing inspiration from dance music, pop and rock, and peppering their compelling originals with covers of Nirvana, Aphex Twin and Blondie, The Bad Plus deconstruct their influences in a steadfastly pure jazz idiom all their own. Their celebrated Tchad Blake-produced major label debut, With These Are the Vistas, (Columbia) is riddled with mayhem, startling surgical precision and rhythmic abandon.

Punk-jazz-kerzoom with Gutbucket's The Wallace & Gromit Project live, with film! Gutbucket has created its own soundtrack to Nick Park's claymation shorts, featuring a set of animation fun with a kick - live musical accompaniment beside the big screen. This genre-destroying gang of shapeshifters uses an onstage mixing board to incorporate movie dialogue into their dynamic re-scored versions of these ground-breaking works. Already performed in NYC and Brooklyn, NY; Halle, Germany; and Vienna, Austria, this event will be presented at the St. Louis Center for Contemporary Art in April 2004 and will tour throughout 2004-5.
