WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, 1924, Taylor Mead was nearing forty when he met Warhol in the fall of 1963, and his presence was already established through Ron Rice's popular underground film, The Flower Thief. Mead had spent many years wandering around America and writing poetry before coming to the Factory. He starred in a 1963 film, Tarzan and Jane Regained, Sort Of, as well as Taylor Mead's Ass, Lonesome Cowboys, and Nude Restaurant.
Mead lives in New York City, and continues to perform and read poetry regularly at The Bowery Poetry Club. His latest book of poems is called A Simple Country Girl. He was the subject of a documentary entitled Excavating Taylor Mead, which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2005. He has been "a beloved icon of the downtown New York art scene since the 60s."
