WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Symphonie Fantastique — the singularly inspired creation of designer, director, performer, and master puppeteer Basil Twist, set to the revolutionary 1830 score by composer Hector Berlioz — returns to New York City on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. Hailed as a creative masterpiece when it premiered, Symphonie Fantastique unfolds in the most unlikely of places — a 1,000 gallon water tank in which five unseen puppeteers swirl countless pieces of fabrics, feathers, fishing lures, flashlights, glitter, dyes, plastic, vinyl, and bubbles of all shapes and sizes, creating a dreamlike world of imagination and surreal storytelling. At the piano is Christopher O'Riley, who's been a soloist with such orchestras as the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Chicago Symphony. He's also the host of NPR's From the Top, now in its 15th year.
