Kick off the New Year with this Tonic double bill featuring Swiss born composer/pianist Sylvie Courvoisier and legendary drummer Rashied Ali. Courvoisier is one of the most imaginative pianists in new music, a frequent collaborator of Mark Feldman, Ikue Mori, and Fred Frith, and the leader of the trio Abaton. Ali is the progenitor of "free jazz" drumming and a fixture of the avant-garde, having frequently played with such musical free spirits as John Coltrane. Celebrated for turning his drum kit into a multirhythmic, polytonal propellant, he promises to drum up flights of musical fancy.
