Stories We Tell Ourselves follows "Tom" and "Steve," two old friends who met in AA years ago, who both happen to share a love of Classic Hollywood. As the play begins, Steve and Tom have just been fired from their jobs as co-hosts of a long running Public Access talk show about old movies. This causes Tom to go on a bender and upon his release from rehab Steve picks him up and they drive to Steve's home town for a funeral where a world of madness and hilarity ensues complete with murder, mystery and betrayal. The town is a place with locals like Humphrey Bogart, Sydney Greenstreet, Edward G. Robinson and Barbara Stanwyck where a wisecrack, a double cross and a .45 are par for the course.
