WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Museum of Jewish Heritage presents an evening of literary and musical influences from the original borsht belt featuring readings by author Gary Shteyngart and musical performances by Yoke and Tridruga.
Tridruga: Yuri Lemeshev, accordion; Tony Scherr , guitar; Brad Shepik, bass balalaika
Yöke: Ilias Muratov, vocals, guitar; and band
Acclaimed Russian/Jewish author Gary Shteyngart (The Russian Debutante's Handbook) headlines an evening of NYC words and music with deep Russian roots. Shteyngart, is joined by the bands Tridruga and Yöke, both of whom play acoustic sets for this very special show.

Yöke is a nine-piece Siberian/swing/salsa band that combines the brooding folk music of its Russian homeland with NYC influences ranging from Latin percussion to Jamaican hip-hop. Yöke is led by painter/songwriter Ilias Muratov.

Tridruga combines Russian and Eastern European folk music with American jazz in an extraordinary way. Accordionist Yuri Lemeshev, who also serves in the acclaimed gypsy/punk/cabaret band, Gogol Bordello, leads Tridruga.
