WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

In 1972, when collaboration between black and white actors was the exception rather than the rule, playwright Athol Fugard and actors John Kani and Winston Ntshona came together to create this gripping drama. More than 30 years from the first performance and subsequent tour of South Africa, the UK and USA, Sizwe Banzi is Dead comes to the National Theatre for a limited run.

"There's a new generation out there that simply must see this superb production with two of South Africa's theatre legends [...] to call this production 'spellbinding' or 'riveting' wouldn't come close."
-- Cape Times

"The play succeeds not only in its sharp observation of the period but on the universal level of the common man's struggle in his daily life."
-- The Citizen

"A powerful blow to the heart"
-- Business Day, Cape Town
