WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Signature Theatre Company presents the Signature Series. Current Signature Playwright-in-Residence Paula Vogel curates a reading series of new plays written by three of her alumni students, who are now emerging in the new generation of American playwrights. The three readings are free-of-charge, but reservations are recommended. Ms. Vogel will host each evening and personally introduce the writers through a short interview. The Signature Series features readings of the following new plays: Elliot (A Soldier's Fugue) by Quiara Alegria Hudes - September 20, 2004 Son, father, and grandfather. For three generations, the men of the Ortiz family have served in the United States military. Now Elliot returns from Iraq, injured and craving mom's home cooking. In the Ortiz's run-down barrio vegetable garden the family comes clean about their unspoken stories, and in the process, they unlock unexpected vaults of joy. The Museum Play by Jordan Harrison - January 24, 2005 When the mastodons escape, Jame must find a new exhibit for the Museum. Luckily, he has a friend with wonderful bones. Unfolding in cabinets, habitats, and hallways, The Museum Play examines the curious intersections of memory and desire. Passion Play part 3 (An American Passion) by Sarah Ruhl - April 11, 2005 A small town in South Dakota puts on their annual Passion Play. The man playing Pontius Pilate goes to serve in Vietnam, returning only to find that his part has been given away to an Equity actor. The man playing the role of Christ ends up betraying his brother. Ronald Reagan visits the town, campaigning for the 1984 election. An unusual look at how the age-old triangle of politics, religion and theatricality can change lives in small-town America.
