The House of Rosmer has been a bastion of religious and political conservatism for generations. Suddenly, after the tragic suicide of his wife, the current 'Rosmer' decides to renounce all the family edicts and declare himself a free-thinker. But is he acting alone, or does his beautiful houseguest, Rebecca West, have something to do with this change of heart?

As always, Ibsen reveals the complex shifts that occur in all domestic situations, but here strong intimations of spirituality infuse Rosmersholm, adding a new level of conflict and ultimately a shocking conclusion.
