WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Classy, urbane, reserved, smooth, and sophisticated -- all of these terms have been used to describe the music of Roberta Flack, particularly her string of romantic, light-jazz ballad hits in the 1970s, which continue to enjoy popularity on MOR-oriented adult contemporary stations.

In 1972, the single "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" from First Take appeared on the soundtrack of Play Misty for Me and subsequently hit No. 1. That same year Flack began collaborating closely with vocalist Donny Hathaway. Together the pair produced No. 1 hits such as "Killing Me Softly with His Song" (1973) and "Feel Like Makin' Love" (1974).

In the 80's Flack enjoyed a fruitful partnership with Peabo Bryson that reached a commercial, if sentimental, peak with 'Tonight I Celebrate My Love' in 1983. She reached the top ten again with 'Set The Night To Music' -a duet with Maxi Priest.

Roberta Flack remains a shining inspiration to her fans, peers and younger musicians in the music industry. Roberta has appeared with soul artists like Alicia Keyes, India.Arie and Angie Stone, younger artists who have been heavily influenced by Roberta Flack's earlier achievements.
