Recent Winner of Britain's prestigious Ninette De Valois Award, Alston creates beautiful lyrical dances to music by Stravinsky, Philip Glass and Hoagy Carmichael. In Blow Over, Glass's "Songs From Liquid Days" gets dancers flying to Paul Simon and Suzanne Vega lyrics. Movements From Petrushka pits a tortured soul against the carnival elation of Stravinsky's infectious Russian music. Shuffle It Right, celebrating the genius of American songwriter Hoagy Carmichael, is a light-footed delight that made The New York Times' Alastair Macaulay, "insanely happy."
