WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Christopher Plummer celebrates the legacy and life of his friend, the late poet and playwright Archibald MacLeish (1892-1982) with Remembering Archie, an evening of personal reminiscences and selections from MacLeish's poems. Archibald MacLeish won two Pulitzer prizes for his poetry, and a third Pulitzer for his drama J.B. It was through a production of J.B. that Mr. Plummer came to know the poet. "It was my privilege to have known him back in 1958-1959 when I played the Devil in Elia Kazan's Broadway production of J.B.," says Mr. Plummer. "Archie lived a varied life as a lawyer, teacher, journalist, Librarian of Congress and an Assistant Secretary of State, but above all he was a poet-one of the finest this country ever produced. I admired him enormously." MacLeish's poems are the heart of this show, which was conceived and arranged by Christopher Plummer. Remembering Archie is the finale of 92nd Street Y Unterberg Poetry Center Poets' Theatre series this year.
