WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Museum of Modern Art presents video artist Mark Leckey's In the Long Tail (2009) in conjunction with its Performance Exhibition Series. Part lecture, part monologue, part living sculpture, Leckey considers the successive phases of 20th century broadcasting and takes on the 'long tail' theory of internet-based economics, while speaking from inside an installation that hovers between film set and three-dimensional manifesto. Mark Leckey won the 2008 Turner Prize, the U.K.'s top contemporary art honor, for his videos "Cinema-In-the-Round" (2008) and "Felix Gets Broadcasted" (2007), which recreates the world's first television broadcast in which the plastic cat turns into a moving image. Performance 5: Mark Leckey is made possible by MoMAs Wallis Annenberg Fund for Innovation in Contemporary Art through the Annenberg Foundation.
