WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Penny Fuller's new cabaret show, Friends In Deed, is a tuneful celebration of songwriters that she has had the good pleasure of working with during her long and colorful career in the musical theater, both on Broadway and off. From Richard Rodgers, who wrote the music for Rex (which had Ms. Fuller doing double duty as both Ann Boleyn and Elizabeth the Queen) to Charles Strouse and Lee Adams who wrote the Tony award winning Applause (where she originated the role of Eve Harrington opposite Lauren Bacall) to John Kander and Fred Ebb (Ms. Fuller was one of the original Sally Bowles in the initial Broadway production of Cabaret) to William Finn (where she was part of the original cast of A New Brain at Lincoln Center.) Other songwriters who figure prominently into the evening include Harold Arlen, Arthur Schwartz, Sam Coslow, Stephen Sondheim, and Billy Goldenberg.
Ms. Fuller also includes some cut songs from Cabaret and Applause as well as a handful of charming anecdotes about these extraordinary individuals. Paul Greenwood is her indispensable musical director, with Louis Tucci on bass and guitar. Ten time MAC award winner, Barry Kleinbort, directs.

True, Fuller hasn't been wanting for work of late. A superb actress, equally comfortable in comedy and drama, she has recently graced such Off-Broadway works as Beautiful Child, Southern Comforts, and the about-to-bow Dividing the Estate. But none of those plays have allowed her to display the still-rich voice and superb interpretive skills that would benefit many a[...]
