WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Few artists embrace such a diverse array of musical styles and disciplines as Oliver Lake. Performing all over the U.S. as well as in Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia, this composer and saxophonist has worked with countless artists including pop diva Bjork, The Brooklyn Philharmonic, hip-hop artist Mos Def, and his own cooperative ensembles. A recipient of the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship, Lake is one of the most heavily commissioned composers to emerge from the jazz tradition; he has written for the Library of Congress, the Rockefeller Foundation ASCAP, and the International Association for Jazz Education. Lake first joined guitarist Michael Gregory Jackson and drummer Pheeroan akLaff in the mid-70s to form the Oliver Lake Trio. Jackson and akLaff blend seamlessly on the intricate lines of the saxophonist's compositions to create a unique and invigorating sound. From his work as a composer to that as a performer, "Lake simply never disappoints."- The Washington Post Oliver will be joined on the Hammond B-3 organ by Jared Gold of whom All About Jazz says "plays with a skill beyond his years, showing the range of what makes the B-3 a thing of beauty" and Chris Dave on drums. Joining the Oliver Lake Organ Trio is DJ Jahi Sundance who plays everything from hip-hop, house, jazz, 80's, rock, reggae to punk. He is best known, however, for creating unique and positive soundscapes. Defined by his musical ear, Jahi Sundance has created some of the most inventive dj sets on the scene today, landing him dj spots at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
