WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

In a career spanning five decades, pianist Monty Alexander has built a reputation for exploring and bridging the worlds of American jazz, popular song and the music of his native Jamaica, finding in each a sincere spirit of musical expression. Monty has performed and recorded with a wide array of renowned artists such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ray Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Clark Terry, Quincy Jones, Ernest Ranglin, Bill Cosby, Natalie Cole, Bobby McFerrin, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare and others. As a leader, Monty Alexander has recorded over 60 albums to date, and has reinterpreted the music of a diverse collection of his favorite artists including Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett and Bob Marley. Monty's current ensemble seamlessly melds the sounds of a classic jazz quartet with an additional Jamaican rhythm section. The ensemble includes Santi Debriano (bass) Obed Calvaire (drums) Yotam Silberstein (guitar) and Jamaican musicians Courtney Panton (electric bass/percussion)and Karl Wright (drums).
