McCollough Sons of Thunder is a brass band instution after thirty years, combining the African-American religious musical expressions, created from a blending of African worship style and Christina theology. These multiple manifestations include the deeply-rooted spiritual song, jubilee music, the lined-out hymn, a cappella quartet singing, mass choirs and other forms and styles. One of the less widely recognized, but highly influential, of these traditions is the instrumental "shout band". The senior elder statesman and musical model of this community-grounded tradition is Elder Edward Babb, nicknamed "Trip", the trombone-player is the director of The McCollough Sons of Thunder Brass Band.
