WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

"Beautiful, poised, intelligent and gently humorous, Ms. Maggart delivers songs as sustained ethereal sighs. There are ghosts living inside a voice whose pinwheeling vibrato evokes a blend of operetta and gramophone styles buffed with a contemporary understanding." - Stephen Holden, The New York Times

Maude Maggart, the stunning new vocalist recently called a "wondrous young chanteuse" by Time Out New York, performs her critically acclaimed show, It's The Talk of The Town: A 1933 Songbook. The show is the recipient of the 2005 Time Out New York Award for special achievement as well as the 2005 MAC Award for Best Female Debut.

It's The Talk of the Town: A 1933 Songbook contrasts the giddiness of the 1930s -- exemplified by Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers romantic fantasies and Busby Berkeley musicals -- with the reality of the Great Depression, starkly represented by Al Dubin / Harry Warren songs like "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "Remember My Forgotten Man." Joined by Lanny Meyers on piano, Maude also performs vintage standards like "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," "It's Only A Paper Moon," "Yesterdays," "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," "Night and Day," "It's The Talk of the Town" and "Happy Days Are Here Again."
