Talented chanteuse/comédienne Justin Bond (aka Kiki of Kiki and Herb) performs his newest show, Justin Bond: Uncorked!
Bond sings songs by, for, and about people who burned out early and died young... while downing an entire bottle of champagne onstage! Justin's fabulously unpredictable preview performances at Ars Nova this past February, which were used to hone and perfect the show, proved so popular Ars Nova just had to have him back to allow newbies and avid fans alike another opportunity to bask in the glory. As Dan Bacalzo wrote, for Theatermania, "Justin Bond has to be one of the finest character actors currently performing... [Justin] is at once engaging and pathetic, terrifying and hilarious."
Part of the fun of a Justin Bond show is that anything can happen: one minute a celebrity audience member could be brought onstage for an impromptu performance, or your favorite artist could be sitting next to you. Rufus Wainwright, Debbie Harry, Danny Fields, and Monica Lewinsky have all recently been seen in the audience at Justin's shows.
Bond is joined on stage by Kenny Mellman (Piano), Jane Scarpantoni (Cello), Tom Murray (Woodwinds), and Alex Estabon (Percussion). Mellman is co-creator and musical director of Kiki and Herb, and Scarpantoni is a classically trained cello player who has performed with R.E.M., Indigo Girls, The Beastie Boys, 10,000 Maniacs, and Nirvana.
