The turbulent lives and musical legacies of Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and Lena Horne are examined in this musical salute to the "Queens of the Blues." More than a catalog of songs, the show touches on their turbulent lives, the hardships they faced, and their iron wills that made them all "Divas" in the first degree-as well as women who made a lasting mark in a not-always friendly world. Juneteenth Blues Cabaret is funded in part by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the New York Council for the Humanities.
