WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Jazz and cabaret singer Jane Harvey, who began her career in the mid 1940's with the bands of Benny Goodman and Desi Arnaz, and went on to a big success on records, TV and major clubs, will appear in New York for the first time in more than 20 years at Feinstein's at the Regency. She will be performing a variety of songs from her career, as well as some of her unique jazz versions of Sondheim, as featured on her critically-acclaimed CD, "Jane Harvey Sings Sondheim." Gary Giddins wrote "Everyone sings Sondheim, but no one gets to the heart of his songs with more bite, wit and determination than Jane Harvey. Her album has become a cult classic...a masterpiece that honors the songwriter and the singer." Rex Reed called it "A perfect musical treasure from start to finish by one of the classiest singers of our time." Will Friedwald, author of "Jazz Singing," named it "one of my favorites of the last 25 years." Harvey, who was discovered by the legendary John Hammond in 1944, made many classic recordings with Benny Goodman for Columbia Records, winning new acclaim at New York's Blue Angel and Café Society and recording with the Desi Arnaz Orchestra for RCA Victor. She also made numerous radio and TV appearances with Bob Hope and was signed to a contract by 20th Century Fox. Her many solo albums through the years have appeared on the Dot, Audio Fidelity, RCA and Atlantic labels.
