WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

James Sewell's ensemble of eight dancers returns to The Joyce stage with two of his most musically astute works that are filled with intelligence and heart. The 12-tone Schoenberg Serenade animates the dancers with choreographic wit, ferocious physicality and a sense of spectacle. With six new segments added to the original five, the episodic Opera Moves, first shown in New York in 1991, features Una Voce Poco Fa and Wagner's sublime Liebestod. The dancers' bodies sing the libretti -- and one opera-trained dancer both sings and dances one aria -- with soulful passion.
