EXILKABARETT, an ensemble of musicians, actors and artists, returns to the Dixon Place stage to bring new life to the unpublished and rarely performed cabaret material of Erika Mann's Die Pfeffermühle (Peppermill Cabaret).
From 1933-1947, Erika Mann, with her brother Klaus and a troupe of mainly gay and lesbian performers traveled across Europe, warning people of Hitler's malicious intentions in over 1000 shows. The Pepper Mill often expressed themselves under perilous conditions. Blacklisted by the Nazis, the troupe came under vicious attack in the press and in raids staged by Nazi sympathizers. As a result, the Peppermill Cabaret saved lives by inspiring exodus.
EXILKABARETT integrates additional material from the Peppermill, working with composer Kirsten Volness on new songs composed to original Pepper Mill lyrics, and new scenes inspired by the literary works of Pepper Mill writers.
EXILKABARETT presents Enfants Terribles!, featuring Darren Chase, Jessica Goldring, Noe Kidder, Lauretta Pope, Bill Solomon, Alejandra Seeber and Marianna Vogt.
