50th Anniversary Special - Drama Desk Awards 2005 - Black Tie Suggested - Creative Black Tie Welcome! Harvey Fierstein, the multi award-winning comic actor currently winning rave reviews in Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway, returns to host the 50th Annual Drama Desk Awards, celebrating excellence in all sectors of New York's theatre world. The event will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2005 from 9:00pm - 11:00pm at the Concert Hall at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts at Lincoln Center (the "Fame" school). Over the last fifty years, the prestige of the Drama Desk has helped launch the careers of many major stars and playwrights. The 1st Award that Andrew Lloyd Webber received in the American Theater was a Drama Desk Award. The Drama Desk is the only major theatre award which considers Broadway, Off and Off-Off Broadway equally in all its multiple categories. The Drama Desk membership includes more than 130 voting theatre critics, reporters and editors. Celebrity Attendees at last year's ceremony included Christopher Plummer, Hugh Jackman, Phylica Rashad, David Cassidy, Shirley Jones, Kristen Chenowith, Sean Combs, John Lithgow, Bebe Neuwirth, Alfred Molina, Audra McDonald, etc. Many of the current stars on Broadway and Off-Broadway are expected to attend the Awards Ceremony. All tickets to the event include a celebrity attended pre-show welcome reception at 7pm in the VIP area at the Concert Hall. The party is sponsored by HIT SHOW CLUB with food and soft drinks being served. Gold Ticket includes priority seating in the first seven rows and attendance at exclusive star-studded VIP pre and post-show parties, with locations to be announced!
