WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Vocalist, pianist, composer, performance artist and diva sine qua non Diamanda Galás makes a special two-night appearance in New York with the East Coast premiere of her latest and most ambitious work to date--Defixiones, Orders from the Dead. Presented by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council as part of its 2005 What Comes After: Cities, Art and Recovery, this sacred operatic mass is a sweeping work of historical memory that excavates the so-called "minor holocaust" of Asia Minor--namely the Armenian, Assyrian, Anatolian and Pontic Greek genocides that occurred between 1914 and 1923--long buried and denied by the Turkish government to this day.
