WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Following up on an incredibly successful inaugural season, Chamber Jazz returns with group improvisation in many of its current manifestations: traditional, avant garde, "Third Stream," world and neo-classical. Dino Saluzzi / Anja Lechner Tuesday, April 24 at 8PM In this rare U.S. appearance, Argentinian bandoneon legend Dino Saluzzi performs haunting, passionate melodies with cellist Anja Lechner. Saluzzi is an innovator of bandoneon following in the footsteps of Astor Piazzolla, his close friend and mentor. Paquito D'Rivera's Jazz Chamber Trio / Edmar Castaneda Trio Thursday, April 26 at 8PM Since celebrating his 50th anniversary in music, Cuban expatriate and prodigy Paquito D'Rivera has risen to the status of musical legend. His recently Grammy-nominated Jazz Chamber Trio soars over "classical works" from both the Americas and Europe. D'Rivera introduces folk-harpist Edmar Castaneda, who deftly adapts jazz, flamenco, and Colombian traditions for the harp, drums and trombone. Ron Carter Nonet / Aaron Goldberg Trio Monday, May 7 at 8PM Ron Carter stands with the greatest of double-bass players. His collaborations with Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Eric Dolphy are a few highlights of his career, which includes more than 2,000 appearances on record as an accompanist. For decades, he's led his own unique string ensembles, including this fascinating Nonet that features four cellos. Pianist and Sunnyside recording artist Aaron Goldberg, often featured with Joshua Redman and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, pursues the art of the trio with bassist Reuben Rodgers and drummer Eric Harland.
