WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Stephanie Riso and Cabaret Pittsburgh in association with Jo Ann Cunningham present the development reading of By the Numbers as part of the TRU (Theatre Resources Unlimited) musical reading series. This is the first free and public reading of the developing musical entitled By the Numbers. The book and lyrics are by Amanda Yesnowitz and music is by Brian Feinstein (Mimi le Duck). Cast members participating in the reading are Chip Zien, Liz Larsen, Sara Delaney, Bridget Clark and John Henry Cox. Alex Lippard is director/dramaturge, Paul Masse is musical director, Rob Baumgartner, Jr. is the assistant musical director, Bekah Nutt is the Casting Director, and Danny Douress is the stage manager/technician. By the Numbers centers around 17-year old Rachel who believes that "math makes sense whereas people do not." As she shares her calculated plan of getting into the college of her choice we also meet the colorful characters that make up her family. The true test is how Rachel reacts when her formula doesn't go as planned. By the Numbers authors are graduates of the NYU musical theatre writing program, the BMI Lehman Engel musical theatre workshop, the ASCAP workshop, and were recipients of the Dramatist Guild Fellowship. The reading is followed by refreshments and a "Dollars and Sense" panel. The panel members scheduled to attend are: Pat Addiss, producer (Little Women, Chita Rivera: A Dancer's Life, Bridge & Tunnel, Spring Awakening); Jamie Cesa, producer/general manager (Kiki and Herb, Naked Boys Singing!, White Chocolate); Jack DePalma, creative director NAMCO (Chicago, Wonderful Town, Sweet Charity); Pam Koslow, producer (Jelly's Last Jam, Jane Eyre, Captain Louie).
