Presented by Ars Nova Theater and sponsored by Broadway.com, the Broadway Spotlight series kicks off Fall 2003 with an appearance by Big River's Melissa van der Schyff. Broadway Spotlight brings the newest and brightest stars of the Great White Way to the intimate 99-seat Ars Nova Theater, lighting up dark Monday nights. Melissa van der Scafe recently made her Broadway debut in Big River (Roundabout Theatre Company and Deaf West Theatre), in which she stars as Mary Jane Wilkes. Other credits include: Los Angeles - Big River (DWT, Mark Taper Forum), Ballad (Drama-Logue Award, Ovation nomination). Recordings: Voted Female Pop Artist of the Year on Femmusic.com for her original CD Urban Peasant. Melissa will perform several alternative pop songs from her new CD. She will be accompanied by Eric Svejcar, pianist for Big River. He will serve as musical director for the evening and perform some of his own original work. They will be joined on stage by Drew McVety (Big River's Judge Thatcher/Harvey Wilkes), who will play violin, and other Big River cast members who will sign some songs while Melissa sings.
