WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
John Maclachlan Gray and Eric Peterson have received accolades for Billy Bishop Goes to War, the musical for which they both penned the lyrics and Gray composed the music. It follows the life of Billy Bishop, a famous Canadian fighter pilot deemed a hero upon returning from World War 1.
This praiseworthy Canadian play, one of the most widely-produced in history, has been performed internationally including on and off Broadway in New York City. The musical has received the Chalmers Award as well as the Governor General's Award for English Drama.

History writers must often cautiously select their heroes on a case-by-case basis, which is why some truly magnificent people haven't found their rightful place in the records of time despite their magnanimous contributions. However, that wasn't the case with Canadian flying ace Billy Bishop, a 20-year-old Royal Military College misfit destined for expulsion after being caught cheating on an exam, but who was catapulted to figurehead status during WW I -- and whose story is recounted in Billy Bishop Goes to War, which is now receiving a truly excellent revival at Toronto's Soulpepper Theatre Company with original stars and co-creators Eric Peterson and John Gray.
