WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The National Theatre of Greece returns to the City Center with six performances of Sophocles' tragedy Antigone, performed in Greek with English supertitles. Written in 442 B.C., the play centers on a conflict between two willful personalities: Antigone, daughter of King Oedipus and Queen Jocasta, and King Creon, ruler of Thebes. Upon Antigone's return to Thebes after a deadly civil war, King Creon refuses the young woman an honorable burial for her brother Polynices - a decision that tempts the wrath of the gods and sets in motion the characters' tragic and inescapable fates.
