American cellist Alisa Weilerstein brings her intensity and grace to Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations, a warhorse for cellists. Tchaikovsky's heart-on-the-sleeve outpourings are preceded by Stravinsky's Apollo, a ballet that marked the beginning of a significant partnership between Balanchine and Stravinsky. We'll play dance music of a wholly different variety with selections from Beethoven's first major work for the stage, Creatures of Prometheus.
