WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Gerta Grunen's A Lighter Shade of Weill explores the music of Kurt Weill with lyricists Ogden Nash, Langston Hughes, Alan Jay Lerner, Ira Gershwin and Maxwell Anderson. No longer the music of Weimar Era Weill cloaked in darkness, reflecting the ever tightening Nazi strangle hold, but the lighter songs that celebrate the artistic and political freedom of the American musical theater. Written and directed by David Arthur, with musical direction by Christopher Denny.
