Broadway veteran Benjamin Walker is likely to star in the upcoming off-Broadway transfer of Duncan Sheik's American Psycho musical, according to Deadline. The musical version of Bret Easton Ellis' novel and subsequent movie will be presented at Second Stage Theatre early next year in a production directed by Rupert Goold.
With music by Sheik and a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, American Psycho follows 26-year-old Patrick Bateman, a handsome investment banker with a gorgeous girlfriend and a penchant for murder. The film version starred Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, and Reese Witherspoon.
Goold helmed American Psycho's world premiere at London's Almeida Theatre in December 2013. That production starred Matt Smith (Dr. Who) as Patrick Bateman, along with Ben Aldridge and Susannah Fielding.
Benjamin Walker has previously appeared on Broadway as the star of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and, most recently, the 2013 revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. He is perhaps best known for taking on the title role in the 2012 film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
