Theater for the New City's Street Theater Company has announced that it will open its 39th annual tour on August 8 with Teach it Right, or Right to Teach. Free performances of the musical will tour streets, parks, and playgrounds throughout New York City's five boroughs through September 20.

With book, lyrics, and direction by Crystal Field, Teach It Right, or, Right to Teach is composed and arranged by Joseph Vernon Banks. It is described as a rip-roaring musical that tackles the challenges and struggles facing public education in NYC and tells the story of a NYC middle school that often has no heat in winter, is broiling hot in summer, and has no art classes — and a charter school is about to grab half its building.

TNC's Street Theater features a company of 30 actors, 12 crew members, two assistant directors, and five live musicians shares the challenge of performing outside and holding a large, noncaptive audience. The music varies in style from bossa nova to hip-hop to musical comedy to Gilbert and Sullivan.
